Yay! Monsoons are here… finally! How I love sitting in my balcony, with a piping hot cup of masala chai and some pakoras and just watch it rain. Most of us love doing this, don’t we?

Chai is the most loved beverage all across the country and its made in almost every Indian household. However, with so much being talked about health and nutrition these days, so many of us, who love chai, refrain from having it and shift to green tea. Green tea, no doubt, has various health benefits , but even our simple masala chai is pretty healthy.

Masala chai, is tea infused with an array of spices and condiments like cloves, ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, black pepper etc, sometimes even fresh mint leaves and lemon grass. Each of these spices or ingredients has its individual health benefits. The use of these spices, in the preparation of the tea, may vary from place to place, person to person, depending of the taste, preference or availability.

Perfect home remedy for cold and flu: Masala chai contains cloves, cardamom, ginger, which are known to boost immunity. Black pepper and cinnamon, fight viruses and infections. These spices are good sources of anti-oxidants and contain antiseptic, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, thus helping to keep common infections at bay.

Improves Digestion: Ginger has been used from ages, to treat common digestion problems and fight nausea. It has a soothing effect on the stomach.
